How We Do Alcohol Rehab in Orange County
We do recovery somewhat differently than many other alcohol rehabs in Orange County. It’s our experience that women do need a distinct and separate type of rehab – they do not recover as well in general adult rehabs, overall. Specifically, while women need the standard therapies like 12 steps group meetings, they also need sexual abuse therapy, gender specific therapy, treatment for their children, and more. Therefore, we take a very broad, holistic approach to treatment: besides traditional therapies, our clients receive everything from meditation to trauma therapy to equine therapy.
Why We’re Passionate About Women-Only Rehab
The fact is that women usually endure very different challenges while going through the dark world of addictions. Unless their needs are met, it’s unlikely they can hope for full recovery.
Unfortunately, for example, scientific studies have shown around half of women who go into rehab have a history of being sexually assaulted or attacked – this either as a catalyst for their addiction or during the period when they were abused.
Women with a history of being sexually assaulted simply need trauma therapy to start working through those issues. Additionally, they cannot expect to do as well in a mixed-gender rehab – the nature of trauma is that even a well-meaning hug from a man during rehab can derail recovery. While we understand no rehab lasting 30-90 days can hope to completely hear trauma scars, we find therapies which give our clients the tools needed to begin the process of healing.
Finally, we take a very proactive role in meeting the needs of our patient’s children. Prenatal alcohol exposure can trigger a whole variety of disorders (including fetal alcohol syndrome). Therefore, we provide assessments to identify the various issues that can appear and then address medical needs during the course of treatment.
Regardless of whether children suffer from alcohol syndrome, they receive four types of therapy:
- family therapy
- individual therapy
- play therapy
- and “Mommy and Me” therapeutic bonding time
On top of this, we educate clients and their families about alcoholism from the point of view of a family disease. Part of our goal is to facilitate better parent-child communication as well as parenting education.
Our Holistic Approach to Alcohol Treatment
We base our therapies on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, but to us that is just the beginning. We believe in a holistic approach — treating the mind, body, and the spirit — so our goal is for patients to not just heal from the physical issues of addiction but also the mental and spiritual ones.
As a result patients;
- have daily classes in yoga and meditation
- attend Twelve Steps groups
- go to gardening sessions
- and more.
They can work out every week on campus with a personal trainer, or participate in one of our experiential therapies: these activities, like equine therapy or rock climbing, allow patients to challenge their own limits and gain an experiential avenue into healing.
Besides our more exotic therapies, we of course offer;
- traditional individual and group therapies
- trauma therapies
- help with medical issues
- and after care.
Therefore, if you or someone you love is in need of alcohol rehab in Orange County, call us today – our addiction counselors are available on a 24/7 basis to help.
